Gleaner Life hosts soup/chili cook-off, silent auction to support the Lenawee Humane Society
March 07, 2018
Last month, Gleaner Life Insurance Society employees brought in their favorite soup and chili for a friendly competition to raise money for the Lenawee Humane Society. Fifteen individuals entered their favorite soup and chili recipes and guest judges from the Lenawee Humane Society — Marcie Cornell, Jamie Camburn and Denise Dusseau — selected the top three. Dawn Osborn, underwriting and new business manager, took top honors with her tomato basil soup. Josh VanCamp, senior systems and network administrator, was runner-up with his chili, and Deb Elliott, vice president of human resources, community engagement and administration, took third with her white chili chicken.
After announcing the winners, Cornell provided an update from the Lenawee Humane Society, which recently took in 34 dogs following a major animal confiscation from a local farm around the first of the year. She shared about the emotional toll related to the experience as well as the need for donations.
“Gleaner Life employees recognize the fiscal challenges nonprofit organizations like the Lenawee Humane Society face as they provide invaluable service to the community. That’s why our employees enjoy raising money to help,” says Elliott. Once a month, Gleaner employees participate in “Casual for a Cause” day where they donate money in exchange for wearing jeans.
In addition to the cook-off, Gleaner Life employees participated in a silent auction hosted by Legacy Arbor. Gleaner Life employees donated items toward the auction and placed bids. Proceeds from Gleaner Life’s causal for a cause days during January and February, coupled with the money raised from the silent auction helped to raise $1,013 for the Lenawee Humane Society.
