Gleaner Life is a not-for-profit fraternal benefit society owned by its members. That means that Gleaner insureds and annuitants become members — part of a time-tested tradition of financial security and charitable-mindedness. Fraternals are:
- Supportive of community programs that reflect members' faith-based values. We want your community to reap the benefits of your membership, which is why we fund community service projects through local service clubs called "arbors."
- Built for people, not for profit. We don't succeed to profit ourselves. We succeed to make your dreams a reality. That's why we're classified as a 501(c)8 organization. Our purpose is providing people with the financial security to live life fully.
- Owned by and accountable to members, not Wall Street investors. When you purchase a Gleaner product, you become a member and owner with a say in how we do our business and who leads us.
Common Bond
Founded in 1894 on the principles of benevolence, fraternity and community service, Gleaner continues these objectives today with a Common Bond that also encourages the values of hard work, steadfast loyalty and a cooperative spirit that have their roots in our agricultural heritage. Our members carry out these principles guided and strengthened by our belief in God. Read more about Gleaner’s Common Bond.
Financial security
As Gleaner works to provide financial security to its members, it recognizes the importance of its own financial performance. The Society has zero ($0) debt. Gleaner is especially proud of its investment portfolio. We always seek conservative investments, with a high degree of stability, to best meet the needs the Society and our valued membership. Our diversified investment portfolio was built on traditional principles and supports these sensible ideals today. Gleaner’s stringent investment standards and professional investment management enable us to weather economic fluctuations and uncertainties. Gleaner has more than $1.3 billion in assets (as of December 31, 2023).
