Gleaner Life to host Sept. 11 Red Cross blood drive

With a nationwide blood shortage emergency, Gleaner Life Insurance Society will host a Sept. 11 Red Cross blood drive as part of the society’s 130th birthday celebration. The project is called “130 pints for 130 years.”

The Sept. 11 drive is planned from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the group’s headquarters at 5200 W. U.S. Highway 223 in Adrian, Michigan. People willing to try giving blood can go online to www.redcrossblood.org/give.html/find-drive and type in the sponsor code GLEANER to schedule a time. In addition to incentives offered by the Red Cross, participants will be entered in a drawing for a gift basket donated by Gleaner with $150 worth of fall-themed items.

Gleaner Life Insurance Society also is encouraging its members who cannot attend the Sept. 11 drive to try giving blood prior to Gleaner Life’s 130th birthday Oct. 12. A drawing is planned for members who do attempt a blood donation by Oct. 12.
