Join us for a "Ruth" Performance trip to Berlin and Sugarcreek, Ohio August 27 - 29, 2024!
Registration is now closed.
Gleaner Life members will have a chance to enjoy Ohio’s Amish Country and see the musical “Ruth” during a Getaway Trip planned Aug. 27-29 to Berlin and Sugarcreek, Ohio. This memorable cultural experience takes place within Holmes County, about 70 miles northeast of Columbus, Ohio, and members will have two ways to participate.
Members who prefer can leave the driving to our round-trip motor coach tour, which begins at the Gleaner Home Office in Adrian, Michigan. They will receive two nights’ accommodations at the Berlin Grande Hotel, which provides a hot breakfast each morning. They also will be served two dinners at a pair of wonderful restaurants — one at the Berlin Farmstead and the other at the Dutch Valley Restaurant. Activities include admission to Behalt – Amish and Mennonite Heritage Center. There, visitors can learn the history of these people and their culture, see a stunning 10-foot by 265-foot circular mural, tour a pioneer barn and pre-Civil War schoolhouse, visit Lehman's Hardware and more. Shopping will be available in both Berlin and Sugarcreek, and Lehman’s hardware store stocks enough modern and vintage items to keep shoppers exploring for hours.
The play “Ruth” is scheduled for 1 p.m. Aug. 28 at the Ohio Star Theater in Sugarcreek. The show, which has a six-month run, lyrically portrays Ruth the Gleaner. The Bible’s timeless message of mercy, provision and hope shown in Ruth helped to inspire the founding of the Gleaner Society.
The motor coach trip, meals, and admission to the various activities is $550 per person, based on double occupancy ($1,100 total), or $700 per person for single occupancy (No triple or quad pricing available). The price includes all tipping for the trip as well as two breakfast and two dinner meals.
Only interested in the "Ruth" performance? We are also offering a dinner and show package for just admission to "Ruth" and dinner that night with the trip guests. This is limited seating and $65 per person.
Please note, we are partnering with Horizon Travel to bring this event to our members. We are hoping for a sold out coach (46 seats). If we are unable to fill it, it will be opened to the general public and Horizon Travelers.
